As a psychodynamic therapist, I consider how your past experiences relate to your present difficulties and may be contributing to the cause of your distress. You may have a general feeling that something isn’t right & may not know what is causing you difficulties. Counselling can help you to gain some clarity.
Counselling offers a space to talk through and make sense of anything that may be causing difficulties or affecting you in your life. The relationship between therapist and client is confidential and creates a safe, trusting, supportive space where you are able to talk honestly about experiences and feelings, without concern that you will be judged. Counselling can help you gain insight and understanding into patterns in your thinking, feeling or behaviour. This enables you to make changes and move forward in your life, leading to improvements in your relationship with yourself and others. It may also help you come to terms with what cannot be changed.
After you contact me, we will arrange to meet for a first assessment session. Initial sessions are assessments and an opportunity to talk about what is bringing you to counselling, what you hope to gain from our therapy and see whether my approach is an appropriate option for you. In an assessment session I explain how I work, I will also ask questions about your experiences present and past to try and get an understanding of your situation.
You will have the chance to ask any questions you may have about anything you don’t understand or simply want to know more about.
